Applesauce Dog Treats

These homemade dog treats contain rolled oats, cornmeal, flour, applesauce, cheese, peanut butter and chicken bouillon. Not only will your pet love them, but they are good for them, too.

3 1/2 dozen

1/2 cup Tree Top or Seneca applesauce
1 cup rolled oats
1/4 cup butter or margarine
1 cup boiling water
3/4 cup cornmeal
1 tablespoon granulated (white) sugar
2 teaspoons chicken instant bouillon
1/2 cup milk
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 egg, beaten
2 cups white or wheat flour
2 tablespoons peanut butter

Preheat oven to 325°F (163°C). Grease a baking sheet.

In a large bowl mix rolled oats, water and butter and peanut butter. Let stand for 10 minutes. Stir in cornmeal, sugar, chicken bouillon, milk, cheese, applesauce and egg. Mix well. Add flour 1 cup at a time, mixing after each addition until dough is no longer sticky.

Roll out dough into 1/2 inch thickness; cut with cookie cutter, and place 1 inch apart on baking sheet.

Bake for 35 to 45 minutes in preheated oven. Cool on wire cooling racks.

Store in the refrigerator or freeze.
