Black Forest Brownies

Ingredients

1 1/3 cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup butter or margarine
1 cup unsweetened baking cocoa powder
4 large eggs, beaten
2 cups granulated sugar
1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon almond extract
1 cup maraschino cherries, chopped
1/2 cup nuts, chopped
Chocolate Brownie Icing
1/4 cup nuts, chopped

Directions

Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C). Grease a 13" x 9" baking pan using Pan Release or cooking spray.

In a bowl, combine flour, baking powder and salt. Set aside. In a large saucepan, melt butter. Remove from heat and stir in cocoa until smooth. Blend in eggs, sugar and extracts. Stir in flour mixture, cherries and nuts. Pour into prepared baking pan.

Bake for 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted halfway between the edge and center comes out clean. Do not overbake. Center should be set (slightly sticky) but not dry.

Prepare Chocolate Brownie Icing. Spread over hot brownies. Sprinkle with nuts, Cool on wire rack before cutting into squares.
