White Cake II

This is a very old recipe for white cake. Everyone will love it.

18 servings

2 cups granulated (white) sugar
2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
3 egg yolks
1 large egg
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup boiling water

Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C). Grease a 13 x 9-inch baking pan with Pan Release or cooking spray.

Mix together the buttermilk with the baking soda. Set aside. Cream shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla. Beat well. Add buttermilk and baking soda mixture.

Sift dry ingredients, and add to creamed mixture. Add boiling water, and mix well. Pour into prepared pan.

Bake for approximately 35 minutes, or until toothpick comes out clean. Place pan on cooling rack to cool. Frost cake with your favorite frosting after cake has cooled.
